A system that blows warm air is almost always low on refrigerant because of a leak, or it has a failed component such as a compressor clutch, condenser fan, expansion valve or pressure switch. Topping it up with a can from the parts store hides the problem and can overcharge the system. We test pressures, check for leaks with dye and an electronic detector, confirm the fault, and then recharge with the correct refrigerant and oil by weight.

R-134a and R-1234yf systems
Most cars built before about 2015 use R-134a. Most newer cars use R-1234yf, which needs different service equipment and costs more per pound. We check the label under your hood and charge the system with the exact amount the manufacturer specifies.
Preventive AC maintenance
A yearly check before summer catches small leaks and weak fans early. Replacing the cabin air filter and keeping the condenser clean in front of the radiator helps the system cool faster and puts less load on the compressor.

Why is my car AC blowing hot air?
The most common causes are a refrigerant leak, a failed compressor or compressor clutch, a condenser fan that does not run, or an electrical fault such as a pressure switch or relay. A proper diagnosis tells you which one before you spend money.
Is an AC recharge enough?
Only if the system was serviced recently and has no leak. AC systems are sealed, so low refrigerant means there is a leak. We find and fix it first, otherwise the cold air will not last.
How long does car AC repair take?
A diagnosis and recharge usually takes one to two hours. Compressor or condenser replacement often takes most of a day, depending on parts availability.
